Potsdam, NY – Hat tricks by Raedyn Spademan and Jessie Pellerin highlighted a blowout win for the Clarkson University Women's Hockey team as the Golden Knights exploded for eight goals in the final two periods for an 8-1 win over RIT on Saturday afternoon at Cheel Arena.

Clarkson improved to 2-0-0 on the season with the sweep, posting 14 goals over the two games. The Golden Knights travel to University of Connecticut next weekend.

After a quiet first period in which neither team scored, both teams were busy in the middle period, with the Knights scoring three times and RIT picking up one late on the power play. Clarkson got on the board about four minutes into the period when Layla Matthew won the sprint to the puck near the end of the goal line and tapped it back for Raedyn Spademan, who finished off the score while crashing the net before RIT could recover, making it 1-0.

The Knights added another goal less than a minute later, again Matthew and Spademan connecting. Matthew received the puck near the blue line on the right side and whipped a shot off, allowing Spademan to redirect the shot in at 5:19.

Four minutes later, Clarkson picked up its third goal of the contest when recovering after RIT cleared the zone. Jaela Carter picked up the puck in the Knights' defensive end and thrust it back forward towards center ice for Spademan. It was an innocuous short pass to Shelby Laidlaw that created a 3-on-3, as Laidlaw held on for possession and wristed a shot in at 9:07.

Four more minutes came off the clock before RIT was able to get on the board while up a skater. About halfway through the power play, Zoe Ziotas won the puck in deep and worked it back out to Kailey Favro at the right circle. One quick pass to the opposite circle allowed Addie Alvarez to rifle off a one-timer, making it 3-1 at 13:23.

Clarkson notched five goals in the third for another high-scoring finish. The Green and Gold picked up two in the first minute, with the fourth goal of the game going to Kennedy Sisson just 40 seconds in. Manon Le Scodan had the puck in deep and it looked like she might have briefly lost possession, but Sara Manness was there to recover, sending a pass out into the center of the slot for a snipe from Sisson. Spademan finished off her hat trick only 17 seconds later, picking up a rebound after Laidlaw's shot was stopped by the left pad where she quickly pounced at the crease to make it 5-1.

While Spademan had a hat trick through the second and third, Jessie Pellerin added a natural hat trick down through the remainder of the final period. Jesse Pellerin and Isabelle Goettl both had chances at a loose puck in front, but it was Pellerin who knocked the puck in at 6:01. Barely 90 seconds later, Pellerin capitalized on a defensive miscue by the Tigers, picking up a loss puck in the slot for a quick wrister to make it 7-1. Pellerin finished off her hat trick when the RIT defense lost her while they were attempting a forecheck in the Clarkson end. Carter had the puck behind the net and found Morgan Walton along the right wall, and she sent a multi-line pass ahead to Pellerin, who took advantage of the impromptu breakaway, finishing at 14:36 for her third goal.

Clarkson ended the game with a 63-45 lead in shots and a 38-26 advantage in shots on goal. The Knights were scoreless on two power plays while RIT was 1-for-4. Oceanne Thiffault had 25 saves before being relieved in the middle of the third and Tahlia Vasseur had five saves down the stretch for RIT, while Kalia Pharand had 25 stops for the Knights.
