Biography
Layla Matthew joins Clarkson as a freshman forward following a strong developmental path through Alberta’s elite minor hockey system. A native of Edmonton, she played her U18 AAA hockey with the Edmonton Jr. Oilers and earned underage approval to compete at that level—highlighting her advanced skill and maturity. Known for her reliable two-way play, Matthew brings strong compete level, intelligent positioning, and a high work rate in all zones.
A versatile player with leadership qualities, she’s praised for her off-puck awareness, forechecking ability, and defensive responsibility. At 5’7”, Matthew offers a steady physical presence and projects as a dependable contributor in Clarkson’s forward group. She is expected to make an immediate impact in a depth role, with long-term upside as a potential top-six forward as she continues to develop at the NCAA level.
