Weisiger and Secor Lead Knights on Day One of Spring Thaw

Shawnee On Delaware, PA – Both Luke Weisiger and Brian Secor finished two-over par on Friday afternoon to headline the Clarkson University Golf team's performance on the first day of the Spring Thaw Tournament, hosted by Ursinus at the par-72, 6725-yard Shawnee Golf Resort.

The Golden Knights closed out day one in third place among 13 teams at +11 or a score of 299, trailing only Bridgewater State and Steven Institute of Technology, but narrowly ahead of the next two teams Allegheny (302) and Moravian (304). The tournament resumes at 8:30 am on Saturday.

Weisiger finished his day tied for ninth in the field of 70 golfers with a score of 74, as did Brian Secor, though the pair matched one another for only one birdie on the day, the sixth hole. Weisiger also posted birdies on the #2 and #12, while Secor was outstanding on par-fives, going one-under on #3, #6, #13, and #15. Both golfers had a 38 on the front and then went even 36 on the back nine.

Eric Spoth shot 39 on the front and then 36 on the back for 75, recording a birdie on #6 and then going back-to-back with birdies on #13 and #14, one a par-five and the other a par-three, putting him in a tie for 14th at the midway point of the tournament. Joe Tiderencel, who tied for 18th finished off Clarkson's team scoring with a 76, scoring 38 on both the front and back. He had four birdies as well, going back-to-back on #5 and #6 and then also going one-under on #10 and #15. Tyler Yacawych's score of 80 was dropped from the team scoring as he was 43 on the front and 37 on the back. He notched three birdies on his scorecard, all on the back nine, tying for 42nd.
