Yacawych One-Over on First Day of Farmingdale State Spring Invitational

Farmingdale, NY - Sophomore Tyler Yacawych was just one-over par with a 71 to headline the Clarkson University Golf team on day one of the Farmingdale State College Spring Invitational, played at the par-70 Bethpage Red Golf Course.

At the halfway point of the tournament, the Golden Knights are tied for 11th among 16 teams in the overall standings, having registered a score of 296. The tournament resumes at 9:00 am on Sunday.

Yacawych had the low score for the Knights, scoring a 34 on the front nine and a 37 on the back nine for his 71, producing a birdie on #3 and then one more on #15 to place him in a tie for 25th in the field of 96 golfers. Joe Tiderencel was next for Clarkson, picking up a birdie on the fifth hole and scoring a 36 on the front and 38 on the back for a 74, putting him in a tie for 49th. Eric Spot was one shot lower with a 75, scoring 40 on the front and 35 on the back and picking up a bird on the 15th hole, placing him in a tie for 59th.

Luke Weisiger and Brian Secor each shot 76, but only one was needed to count in the team score. Weisiger had two birdies, going one-under on #5 and #15 and scoring 36 on the front and 40 on the back. Though he was tied for the highest score on the team, Secor had the best single-hole performance for the Knights, notching an eagle on the par-five #15 which three of his four teammates had recorded a birdie. Secor also had birdies on back-to-back holes on the front nine, going one-under on the fourth and fifth holes. Both Weisiger and Secor are tied for 72nd at the midpoint of the tournament.
