Rutland, VT – Although the margin was closer in round two, the Clarkson University Golf team claimed a 15-stroke victory at the Castleton Invitational held at the par-70, 6134-yard Rutland Country Club.

The Golden Knights were +27 (307 strokes) on the second day of the tournament, but that was still four strokes better than any other team, as the Green and Gold finished with a team score of 610 over 36 holes. Norwich finished second (625), followed by New England College (638), Vermont State University Castleton (660), and Vermont State University Johnson (739). Clarkson will compete next weekend in Oswego, NY.

Clarkson had four of the top five golfers in the field of 24 competitors, taking the runner-up spot through the fifth position. Eric Spoth ended his 36 holes with a score of 151, shooting 76 on Sunday to jump into second place. Spot was one-over on the front nine with a birdie on the fourth hole. He added a birdie on 17 as well, but he still finished five strokes behind the tournament winner.

Joe Tiderencel was in the final group that went off on Sunday, but shot 79, dropping him one spot to third with a two-day event score of 152. Tiderencel started off well enough on the front nine and stayed within striking distance of the top spot after he shot 37 on the front nine, which included one birdie. However, the back nine gave him a bit more trouble and his 42 forced him down a peg from the previous day.

Ryan Makowski shaved three strokes off his first day's effort with a 75 on Sunday, ending up at 153, which placed him fourth overall. Makowski notched eight pars on his first 11 holes and then had trouble on the 12th and 13th holes, but he was able to make up ground with birdies on 14 and 16 to score a 37 on the back nine.

Luke Weisiger shot 77 for the second straight day to close out the tournament with a score of 154, taking the fifth spot and also closing out Clarkson's team score. Weisiger was just one-over par through the opening nine holes as he picked up birdies on number-five and number-eight. He also added a birdie on number-14.

Tyler Yacawych shot 83 on day two of the tournament and ended up in a tie for 15th with a score of 164.  Yacawych recorded 11 pars en route to his 83 on Sunday.
