Knights Lead Castleton Invitational at Halfway Mark, Tiderencel in Second

Rutland, VT – Joe Tiderencel posted a pair of birdies on the back nine to rally for a 73, leading the Clarkson University Golf team at the halfway point of the Castleton Invitational, held at the par-70, 6134-yard Rutland Country Club.

The Golden Knights have a hefty lead among the five teams through the first of two rounds, scoring 303 (+23). That is ahead of the rest of the field which includes Norwich (314), New England College (327), Vermont State University Castleton (338), and Vermont State University Johnson (364). The tournament concludes tomorrow with tee times starting at 11:00 am.

Tiderencel had six pars on the front nine, but had a 38 at the midpoint of Saturday's first round. He notched five more pars and also had a pair of birdies on par-four holes, ending his day at 73 which was second among the 24 competitors.

Eric Spoth also was a bit off on the front, though he did have a birdie on the fourth hole, but was at 40 strokes through nine. The junior recovered nicely with three birdies on the back, concluding the round with a 75 for fourth place.

Luke Weisiger tamed the front nine with an even-par 35, but needed a birdie on the 17th hole to end up at 77 for the day, placing him in fifth place in the field.

Ryan Makowski shot 38 on the front and 40 on the back to round out Clarkson's team score at 303, putting the junior in a tie for sixth. Tyler Yacawych tied for ninth with an 81 with 10 pars, scoring a 40 on the front and a 41 on the back, but his score was dropped from the Knights' team tally.
