Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Knights score 4 unanswered to top Princeton on the road

The Golden Knights fell behind early in the game, but fought back with 4 unanswered goals to down one of the hottest teams in the league, 4-1 at Hobey Baker Rink in Princeton, NJ.

Marcus Brännman got the start in net for the Knights and was tested early when a wrap around attempt by Kevin Anderson put the Tigers up 1-0 just 2:16 into the game.  The Knights came back the next shift and had 3 scoring chances, but Ethan Person held the Knights back on that flury and all 11 shots the Knights took in the opening period.  The Knights thought they had tied the game on a Jack Sparkes shot that was tipped by Talon Sigurdson, but the video review determined that the stick was above the cross bar and the goal was waived off.

Tate Taylor got the Knights on the board at 11:07 of the 2nd period off a feed from his brother, Trey and Luka Sukovic.  Then just under 3 minutes later, Sigurdson would score that stuck on assists from Trey Taylor and Tristan Sarsland.   The Knights out shot the Tigers by a 10 to 5 margin in the middle period.

Erik Bargholtz drove deep into the zone early in the 3rd period and centered a feed that Garrett Dahm was able to poke home to give the Knights a two goal lead.  Some late drama would make the final minutes stressful for Knights fans.  With 4:55 left, Sparkes went off for holding and Princeton asked for a official review for Facemasking on a play earlier in the shift.  A probable ploy to rest their power play more than a true belief that there was a infraction, the review did not result in a penalty.  Clarkson was able to kill off the Tigers power play and then David Ma crushed any chance the Tigers had of attempting to come back when he took a frustration penalty below the Clarkson goal line.  Ma received a 5 minute major for Cross-Checking which allowed the Knights to finish the game with a power play.  Clarkson seemingly scored on the empty net when Ryan Bottrill scored, but a review determined that the play was off sides, giving the Tigers another chance to get their goalie off and try for a goal, but at 19:27, Ryan Richardson was able to finish off the game for the Knights.

Brannman finished with 19 saves for his first win in a Golden Knight uniform.  Clarkson out shot the Tigers 32 to 20 in the game, finished 1 for 3 on the power play and killed off all 3 chances for Princeton.

With the regulation win, Clarkson moves into 4th place with 28 points.  Clarkson owns the tiebreak with Union who also has 28 points, based on more wins and the 2-0 record head to head.  The Knights are 1 point back of Dartmouth for 3rd with a chance to overtake the Big Green tomorrow as they are off.

Make sure to tune in for all the action tomorrow when Clarkson travels to Hamden to square off with Quinnipiac at 7:00 pm on ESPN+ and B99.3FM
