Spoth in Top 10 at Midpoint of Hamilton Invitational

Rome, NY - Sophomore Eric Spoth shot a two-over par 74 to lead the Clarkson University Golf team on the opening day of the Hamilton Invitational, held at the par-72 Rome Country Club. 

The Golden Knights were 14 strokes off the pace set by Endicott, but only six strokes out of the third position through 18 holes. The invitational will continue on Sunday morning, with tee times set for 9:30 am. 

Spoth shot 36 on the front nine and 38 on the back nine, going even to start thanks to a birdie on the 299-yard, par-four 8th hole and then an eagle on the 527-yard, par-five 9th hole. He also posted 11 pars on the day to put himself in the top 10 among the 60 golfers competing in the tournament. Andrew Palmatier also posted birdies on the eighth and ninth holes to go along with his 10 pars, finishing his day with a 76, shooting 36 on the front and 40 on the back. Freshman Tyler Yacawych scored a 77, shooting 37 on the front and 40 on the back, tying for the team lead with 11 pars for the day while also recording a birdie on the 9th hole. Ryan Makowski rounded out Clarkson's team score with an 83, scoring 40 on the front and 43 on teh back. He had a birdie on number-three, a par-three, and also picked up a birdie on the 18th hole, a par-four. Daniel Wilson was just outside the team scoring, recording an 84 thanks to eight pars.
