2021 CU Golf Preview

Although much of last year's team graduated this past spring, the Clarkson University Golf team is still poised to be among the top teams in the Liberty League in 2021-22 thanks to some strong returning golfers and an impressive group of newcomers.

In back-to-back campaigns, the Golden Knights finished third at the Liberty League Championships, accomplishing the feat in 2019 and then doing so again with nearly an entirely different lineup. The Green and Gold will be looking to repeat the effort again in 2022, but the season begins this weekend as Clarkson will trot out a new squad with some veterans and some untested collegiate athletes.

Senior Zach Pilarchik and junior Casey Ditzel each competed at last spring's conference tournament, with Pilarchik showing little rust from not having participated in the fall exhibition rounds. He tied for fourth at the Liberty League Championships, posting the best two-day round of his career by scoring 147. Ditzel dropped two strokes off his average from his freshman to sophomore seasons and has been a consistent performer for the Knights ever since he stepped on the course for the Knights. Joining the duo are upperclassmen Brennan Moreau, Justin Perry, Alec Chase, and Alex Lawliss. Moreau and Perry have been with the team for two seasons, while Chase and Lawliss joined a year ago.

Joining those with experience at the college level are a juniors Dale Turner and Jacob Dutch, sophomore Zander Poole, and freshmen Luke Baringer, Dylan Farr, and Andrew Palmatier. Each will have the opportunity to join the top-five traveling squad this fall under the tutelage of third-year coach Brian Fairchild and first-year assistant and former Clarkson standout Andrew Leek.

The Golden Knights open the season this weekend in the St. Lawrence Invitational held at the Oliver D. Appleton Golf Course in Canton, NY.
