Mercer Selected By China's Vanke Rays in CWHL Draft

One of the most outstanding players in the history of Clarkson University Women's Hockey, Cayley Mercer will look to continue her on-ice success in the professional ranks as a member of the China-based expansion team in the Canadian Women's Hockey League.

Mercer was the initial draft pick by the Vanke Rays in Sunday's CWHL Draft, which was held at the Hockey Hall of Fame's Doc Seaman Centre in Toronto.

A native of Exeter, ONT, Mercer was the seventh overall pick in the draft, which was for players who have used up their collegiate eligibility.

A Top-Three Finalist for the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award as the nation's top women's collegiate player, Mercer was named USCHO Player of the Year, earned First Team All-America and ECAC Hockey Player of the Year honors, and gained numerous other accolades during the Golden Knights' second run to an NCAA Division I National Championship. Selected as Most Outstanding Player of the 2017 Frozen Four, Mercer led Clarkson to its second national title since 2014, her freshman campaign, with two goals in a 3-0 win over Wisconsin in the NCAA title game.

Clarkson's co-captain was tied for the national lead in scoring with 62 points, with a nation-leading 28 goals.

A four-year all-star for the Golden Knights, Mercer is Clarkson's all-time leading goal scorer and second in the program's 14-year history in points with 80 goals, and 178 points through 160 career games from 2013-17. Mercer was also a four-time ECAC Hockey All-Academic Team member.
