Finally leaving the North Country for a tournament, the Clarkson University Golf team heads to Vermont where it has enjoyed success the last three seasons, competing in the annual Castleton Invitational, held at the Rutland Country Club.

Live Stats

History: Clarkson has played at the Castleton Invitational each of the past three years, placing as the runner-up in both 2023 and 2024 before winning the title last year.

The Five: The Golden Knights have an incredible amount of depth on this year's roster, with 14 of the 15 players scoring in the 70s on Tuesday at the SUNY Canton Invitational. That created a slight change in the fivesome that will represent the Green and Gold in Vermont this weekend. Tyler Burchett has been in the top spot for Clarkson in each of the first three tournaments on the Golden Knights' 'A' team and for good reason, as he has yet to shoot over par in four competitive rounds, scoring three 72s and a 71 for a scoring average of 71.75. He will be joined by classmate Sam DuPont, who is averaging 74.25 strokes per 18 holes, including a tournament-winning 71 on Tuesday in Canton. The other three members of Clarkson's team this weekend have experience at the Rutland Country Club, though it has troubled them occasionally. Eric Spoth had his worst tournament as a freshman at Rutland back in 2023, though he still finished tied for 10th in the field of 35 golfers that year with a score of 164. Spoth has been better the last two years, tying for second in 2024 with a score of 147 and finishing second by himself last year with a tally of 151. He is averaging 72.25 strokes per 18 holes so far this year. Junior Tyler Yacawych also had his worst tournament of his sophomore year at Rutland, shooting 164 to tie for 15th, roughly in the middle of the pack. Yacawych is off to a solid start in 2026, scoring 73.75 strokes per 18 holes. Luke Weisiger finished fifth among 24 golfers in 2025 at Rutland with consecutive 77s. He is averaging 73.25 strokes through four competitive rounds in 2026.
