Canton, NY - Four of the five members of the Clarkson University Golf team's top squad shot 74 or fewer to help the Golden Knights win the team title at the SUNY Canton Invitational, but it was freshman Sam DuPont who won medalist honors as the Golden Knights excelled at their second straight midweek tournament, this time held at Partridge Run Golf Course.

The Clarkson 'A' squad shot 292 for the team-low score among the 10 teams, though the Knights' 'B' team also was below 300 with a score of 299, placing second. Clarkson's 'C' grouping scored 313.

DuPont won the tournament with a one-under 71, recording a birdie on the first and fifth holes on the front nine for a 35 and then picking up birdies on the 10th, 13th, and 16th holes to shoot even on the back nine.

Next for the Knights was Tyler Burchett, who scored an even par 72. Burchett started his day with a bogey, but rounded out his day with four consecutive birdies to rush back to even. He finished with a 34 on the front nine, picking up birdies on the second, third, fourth, and fifth holes and had one more on the back nine on number-13. Junior Tyler Yacawych and senior Luke Weisiger each then went one-over 73 and Eric Spoth was two-over for a 74 to round out Clarkson's 'A' team score. Yacawych had birdies on the second and ninth holes on the front for a 36 and birdied a pair of par-fives on the back nine to score a 37. Weisiger almost was even for the day but finished with a bogey on his final hole. He had birdies on his fifth and seventh holes as well as birdies on number-10 and number-13. Spoth's 74 came with 37 on the front and back, scoring birdies on number-6, number-12, and number-16. Brian Secor's 78 was dropped from the team score, but he got stronger as the day went on, finishing with a birdie on his final hole with a 40 on the front and a 38 on the back.

Joining DuPont on the 'B' team was Bryce Terborgh, Alex Sweeney, Mario Alvarez Carreras, and Joe Tiderencel. Terborgh and Sweeney each shot 75 while Alvarez Carreras scored a 78 and Tiderencel's 79 was dropped from that group score. Sweeney shot 37 on the front with a birdie on the seventh hole and then seven pars on the back for his total of 75. Terborgh posted three birdies, going one-under on number-6, number-13, and number-16.

Clarkson's 'C' team also had four golfers below 80. Sam Schultz scored a 77, Jace Dutch carded a 78, and both Vincent Magee and Ty Lefebvre shot 79, while Joey Walsh's 83 was dropped from the group.
