Knights Finish Second in Opening Tournament of 2026 at SLU

Canton, NY – Both Tyler Burchett and Tyler Yacawych scored even-par on Sunday to top the performances of the Clarkson University Golf team on day two of the St. Lawrence University Invitational, held at the par-72 Oliver D. Appleton Golf Course.

The Golden Knights finished eight strokes off the pace set by St. Lawrence (575) with a score of 583, the only team that was within any kind of striking distance of the Saints. Hobart (592), Nazareth (594), and New York University (597) all had scores below 600 with the field of Oswego State (610), Clarkson 'B" (617), St. Lawrence 'B' (619), Norwich (620), Suffolk (622), Utica (626), St. Lawrence 'C' (628), and SUNY Canton (639) rounding out the scoring.

Burchett was one of two Clarkson golfers to finish in a tie for third overall, scoring even for the tournament at 144. Burchett matched his 72 on Saturday with a 72 on Sunday, this time picking up two birdies on the back nine to finish strong. Senior Eric Spoth was the other Golden Knight golfer at even-par, though he had a 71 on Saturday and shot 73 on Sunday. Spoth was able to stick in the tie for third thanks to a birdie on the final hole, adding to a birdie he had on number-14.

Tyler Yacawych shot two-over par 146 to finish in a tie for seventh thanks to his 72 on Sunday. He had one birdie on the front nine where he was even, and then closed out his round strong with four birdies on the back nine, including three on the final four holes.

Luke Weisiger closed out Clarkson's team scoring with a 76 on day two, giving him a total of 149 over 36 holes and tying him for 14th. He posted a birdie on the fourth hole and also picked up a birdie on his final hole of the round.

Brian Secor had his score dropped from the team total, but he still played well, shooting a 77 to tie for 19th in the field. Just like Saturday, he had four birdies overall with two on the front and two on the back.

Though he was on the second team for Clarkson Sam DuPont also finished in a tie for 19th thanks to a 73 on the second day of the tournament. DuPont started off with three bogeys, but had only one more over the final 15 holes as he had birdies on six, eight, and number 14 to go minus-one for the last stretch of the tournament.

Bryce Terborgh finished in a tie for 24th at 152 (77-75), Alex Sweeney tied for 36th with a two-day run of 154 (80-74), Sam Schultz tied for 40th along with Jace Dutch (157), Mario Alvarez Carreras tied for 43rd at 158, Joe Tiderencel tied for 57th at 160, Ty Lefebvre was tied for 62nd (161), Vincent Magee and Nate Cencetti tied for 70th (163), and Joey Walsh tied for 81st (170).
