CU Golf Preview - at SUNY Canton Invitational

A second straight one-day tournament and a third consecutive tournament with very little mileage, the Clarkson University Golf team heads down Route 11 to compete in SUNY Canton Invitational on Tuesday afternoon.

The History: Clarkson has finished either first or second in the Canton Invitational each of the past five years. Two years ago, Eric Spoth hit the cup in one swing on the eighth hole at Partridge Run Golf Course.

The Team: The Golden Knights have displayed impressive depth through the first two tournaments (three total rounds) so far. Spoth is averaging 71.7 strokes per 18 holes with two one-under performances and a singular one-over round. He is tied with freshman Tyler Burchett, who carded consecutive even-par rounds at the St. Lawrence Invitational over the opening weekend and followed that up with a one-under 71 on Wednesday at Potsdam Town & Country Club. Luke Weisiger is next at 73.3 strokes and Tyler Yacawych has averaged 74.0 strokes per round. On the top scoring team in each of the first two tournaments, Brian Secor is averaging 75.3 strokes, which is tied for fifth on the team with a pair of newcomers, Bryce Terborgh and Sam DuPont.
