CU Cross Country Preview - at Hoffmann Invitational (9/19)

A year ago the Clarkson University Cross Country team got plenty of looks at the Ronald C. Hoffmann course on the campus of St. Lawrence University, as the team ran the track on three occasions, and the Golden Knights will be returning there for the annual Hoffmann Invitational on Saturday.

The Women: Thanks to the regular Hoffmann Invitational, the Liberty League Championships hosted by Clarkson on St. Lawrence's course, and the NCAA Mideast Regionals, there were plenty of chances for the Green and Gold runners to become accustomed to the nuances of the track in Canton. Due to a wide variance in weather, though, times were all over the place for Clarkson's runners. Janneke Baks probably adapted the best among Clarkson's runners as she progressively improved her times from September into November, shaving roughly 30 seconds off each race until she finished the NCAA Regional in 26:19.5. Skylar Francis had her best time in September (26:22.2) when the weather was most favorable, as did Meagan Speizer (26:36.9).

The Men: Drew Reigelsperger was the top performer for the Golden Knights in each race in Canton a year ago, just missing out on Liberty League All-Star honors by a few spots during the conference meet. During the NCAA Regional, James Lynch gave Reigelsperger a run for the top spot, finishing less than four seconds behind his teammate. Matthew Clarner, who missed the first race of the year in Canton, placed 34th (27:00.1) during the conference meet and was only behind Reigelsperger among Clarkson runners during that race. Both Frank Consolazio and Spencer Reese were in the scoring for the Knights during each race at Canton, with Reese getting quicker each time out, eventually shaving 38 seconds off from his first time on the course in September.
