Reigelsperger Starts 2026 Off Strong by Winning the Cardinal Classic

Plattsburgh, NY – Senior Drew Reigelsperger of the Clarkson University Cross Country team paced the field of 111 runners to help the Golden Knights to a second-place finish at the 44th annual Cardinal Classic Cross Country Invitational on Saturday.

The Golden Knights' men ended up as runners-up in a field of eight teams, scoring 51 points, trailing only St. Lawrence University (20) and comfortably ahead of third-place Saint Michael's (69). Clarkson's women took fourth place in a field of five teams with 117 points.

Reigelsperger won the 5000-meter race with a time of 15 minutes, 46.2 seconds, which was 5.2 seconds ahead of the runner-up in the deep field. Next for the Golden Knights was James Lynch, as the junior took seventh place in 16:21.9. That began a rush of Clarkson runners crossing the finish line in the next 30 seconds. Matthew Clarner took 14th in 16:41.2, just ahead of Jack Zieber's time of 16:41.8, which was 15th. Frank Consolazio closed out Clarkson's team scoring by taking 19th in 16:49.4, but Wyatt Worcester wasn't far behind in 21st with a time of 16:50.8.

On the women's side, the field was about half the size of the men's with 54 total runners. Megan Speizer was in the top half for the Knights, crossing the line first for Clarkson with a 26th-place showing in 21:44.3. Janneke Baks was just outside the upper half, coming in 30th in 22:18.4 and Skylar Francis was two spots lower in 32nd at 22:23.9. Fifty seconds later, it was Kelly Lahiff finishing in 23:13.9 for 34th place. Olivia Stalker topped off the Clarkson scoring by taking 44th overall in 25:11.3, and Madeline Bresnan was next in 45th at 25:23.2.
