Golden Knights Travel to Merrimack for Early-Season Test
The calendar still reads September, but the Clarkson University women's hockey team is already stepping into a game with the feel of mid-season intensity. Tonight, the Golden Knights head to North Andover, Massachusetts, for a non-conference matchup against Merrimack College at Lawler Rink, with puck drop set for 6 p.m. on ESPN+.
Â
For Clarkson, it's an early chance to measure themselves away from home after opening their season with a confidence-building performance against Bishop's University. The Golden Knights carry with them the weight of expectation, returning a core of veteran talent while breaking in a promising freshman and transfer class. That blend of experience and new energy will be tested against a Merrimack squad eager to prove it can turn the tide in the rivalry.
Â
History favors Clarkson. The Golden Knights have never lost to the Warriors, and in their last three meetings. The most recent contest, a 4–0 Clarkson win last November in the Championship of the Smashville Classic.
Last Saturday, Clarkson got balanced scoring from 5 different skaters, along with a combined 25 save shut out from all 3 goalies, for a 5-0 win over Bishop's University. Newly named Captian,
Sena Catterall scored first thenÂ
Lara Beecher made it 2-0 when she scored on a great redirect from
Rhea Hicks. Â
Janelle Evans,
Reese Logan andÂ
Shelby Laidlaw capped off the scoring to make it 5-0. Â
Â
As the puck drops tonight, one team will fight to protect tradition while the other pushes to rewrite it. And in the still-young season, both Clarkson and Merrimack know that games like these—early, gritty, and emotional—can go a long way in shaping what's to come.
