Palmatier and Makowski Two-Over After Day One of Liberty League Championships

Verona, NY – Senior Andrew Palmatier and sophomore Ryan Makowski are just outside the top 10 for the Clarkson University Golf team, as the Golden Knights closed out the opening round of the three-day Liberty League Championships, held at Shenandoah Golf Course at Turning Stone Resort.

Clarkson ended day one with a score of 309, sitting in seventh out of seven teams in the field. The Golden Knights will be back for round two of the championship tournament on Saturday, as the first foursome sets out at 12:00 noon.

Through the first round of 18 holes, Makowski and Palmatier each shot two-over par. Palmatier was even on the front nine, recording nine consecutive pars, and then posted a birdie on the par-five 506-yard 10th hole. A double bogey on 11 put him back over par, but he notched six more pars on the back nine to finish with a 74. Makowski was one-over on both the front and back nine, picking up a birdie on the par-four 364-yard seventh hole and another bird on number-16, a short par-four of only 291 yards.

Eric Spoth closed out the opening round in a tie for 31st with a 79. Spoth had six pars on the front and three on the back, posting one birdie on number-16. Joe Tiderencel and Tyler Yacawych each shot 82 to tie for 34th in the field. Tiderencel had seven pars on the front nine and three on the back, going for 39 to start and 43 to finish. Yacawych's score could have been in the mid-70s were it not for one hole where he struggled in a bunker. He shot 46 on the front and recorded two birdies, then was even par on the back nine, notching an eagle on 16 by knocking in the first shot after his drive.
