A late add to the schedule has the Clarkson University Golf team returning to action sooner than expected as the Golden Knights head to the Philadelphia area this weekend to compete in the Spring Thaw, a 36-hole tournament hosted by Ursinus College.

The Course: Clarkson will be competing at the Shawnee Country Club which has three nine-hole courses from which to choose, ranging from 3227 to 3438 yards in tournament play, each a par-36.

The Field: The Golden Knights are joined by host Ursinus as well as Allegheny, Bridgewater, Drew, Kean, Lancaster Bible, Moravian, Mount Saint Mary, Nazareth, Oswego State, Penn State-Harrisburg, Scranton, Stevens and Utica.

The Five: Clarkson's group this weekend will consist of three golfers that competed in all of the tournaments during the fall and two other regulars. Eric Spoth had the team's top scoring average in the fall at 75.31 strokes per 18 holes, which included 12 rounds below 80 with seven of those 75 or lower. Luke Weisiger and Tyler Yacawych were the other two competitors to play in all 13 tournament rounds in September and October, with Weisiger averaging 76.54 strokes per 18 and Yacawych at 76.92 strokes. Yacawych had the top performance in the final tournament of the fall, finishing in a tie for 14th among 99 golfers with a three-round score of 218 (72-72-74) at the Skidmore Invitational. Joe Tiderencel played in 10 of 13 competitive rounds in the fall, averaging 79.40 strokes per 18 holes and going below 80 on six occasions. Brian Secor will also join the group after posting a 77.86 scoring average in seven rounds, including a season-low 73 his last time out in October.
