Palmatier Fires 72, Knights Finish First Round at Bethpage Red

Farmingdale, NY - Senior Andrew Palmatier shot a two-over par 72, including an eagle on number-5, to lead the Clarkson University Golf team on day one of the Farmingdale State Spring Golf Tournament, held at the par-70 Bethpage Red Golf Course. 

The Golden Knights are in 12th place among 16 teams with a score of 300 strokes through the first 18 holes. The teams begin day two at 9:00 am on Sunday. 

Palmatier finished in a tie for 15th place among the 88 golfers in the field with his 72, recording 12 pars overall. He shot 34 on the front and then 38 on the back, with the eagle on the 528-yard par-five fifth hole the highlight of his round. He also picked up a birdie on the 463-yard 18th hole, a par-four. 

Joe Tiderencel knocked down two birdies in his round of 74, placing him in a tie for 35th in the tournament. His one-unders came on the par-five fifth hole as well as on the 18th. Ryan Makowski and Eric Spoth each scored 77 to put them in a tie for 60th in the tournament. Makowski was 39 on the front and 38 on the back, recording 12 pars, while Spoth hit 41 on the front and 36 on the back, knocking in nine pars and finishing his round with a birdie on number-18. Tyler Yacawych's first round score of 80 was dropped from the team scoring. He was in a tie for 77th place at the midway points, recording birdies on the fifth hole as well as the 400-yard par-four 13th hole.
