Makowski Claims Top Spot at Castleton Invitational

Rutland, VT – Sophomore Ryan Makowski of the Clarkson University Golf team shot three-over for the second straight day to place first among 35 golfers at the Castleton Invitational, finishing with a total of 146 through 36 holes at the par-70 Rutland Country Club.

The Golden Knights finished second in the tournament among six teams with 619 strokes, 10 behind New England College (609) but ahead of Norwich (639), Keene State (656), Castleton (687), and Elms (714).

Makowski shot even par on the front nine (15 pars overall) and birdied the 18th hole to record his 73, just one stroke ahead of teammate Eric Spoth, who tied for second in the tournament at 147. Spoth had birdies on the three par-fours, the second, ninth, and 10th holes. The two sophomores were consistent over the two days, as was senior Daniel Wilson with his 158 (78-80). Wilson, who tied for ninth in the field, scored a 39 on the front nine and 41 on the back, recording 10 pars. Andrew Palmatier and Joe Tiderencel were unable to secure scores closer to their first days at the Rutland course, with Palmatier scoring 87 on day two and Tiderencel a 91. Palmatier closed out Clarkson's team scoring, shooting 169 for the weekend, while Tiderencel's day one score was used, but the day two score was dropped as he notched a 172 overall. Palmatier came in 21st for the weekend and Tiderencel was one spot lower in 22nd.
