Canton, NY – Luke Baringer and Tyler Cline held their arms in the air with an index finger pointed skyward to confirm what spectators had already witnessed, causing Eric Spoth to sprint up the 8th fairway to see for himself, as the sophomore of the Clarkson University Golf team notched a hole-in-one en route to a 67 to win the SUNY Canton Kangaroos Invitational on Thursday afternoon.

The Golden Knights won the tournament by a dozen strokes with a score of 301, ahead of Utica (313), St. Lawrence (315), Clarkson 'B' (320), SUNY Canton 'A' (323), and SUNY Canton 'B' (379).

Spoth led the field by an impressive nine strokes, scoring a 67 overall with a 34 on the front and a 33 on the back. Oddly enough, the day didn't start out great as Spoth recorded a double bogey on his first hole and a bogey on his second hole, but he quickly recovered with three birdies in the next five holes before he recorded his ace on the eighth. Off his drive on that 188-yard par-3, Spoth's ball bounced twice in front of the hole and banged off the pin at about six inches off the ground before falling into the cup. His impressive day continued on the back nine, as he recorded six pars and three birdies to close out with a 67.

The next Clarkson golfer on the leader board was Andrew Palmatier, who shot 77 with a 40 on the front and 37 on the back to tie for fourth among the field of 38 golfers. He recorded a birdie on the 12th and 17th holes, and then closed out his round with a birdie on the second hole (he began the day on number-three). Daniel Wilson followed with a 78, tying for seventh, scoring 39 on the front and 39 on the back. Wilson recorded a pair of birdies on the day, going one-under on the 8th and 12th holes. Ryan Makowski tied for 11th in the tournament with a 79 and finished off Clarkson's team score. He had three birdies on the front nine and two more on the back to lead the team in that category.

Aaron Walsh and Luke Weisiger also each shot 79 to tie for 11th in the tournament for the Knights, while Tyler Yacawych posted an 80 to finish in a tie for 14th. Jace Dutch shot 82 to tie for 18th, and both Joe Tiderencel and Brant Bomberger tied for 26th as they each shot 86.
