Makowski Wins by Four Strokes, Knights 3rd at SLU Invitational

Canton, NY – Sophomore Ryan Makowski of the Clarkson University Golf team shot one-under on Sunday to claim the top spot of the St. Lawrence Invitational, held at the par-72 Oliver D. Appleton Golf Course.

Makowski was even on the first day of the tournament, one stroke off the pace at the midway point, but his 71 on Sunday allowed him to claim a four-stroke win for the 36-hole tournament.

Overall, the Golden Knights finished in third place among 11 teams with 616 strokes, 14 off the pace set by St. Lawrence's 'A' team (602) and 11 behind St. John Fisher (605). The Clarkson 'B' team took eighth with a two-day score of 639.

Tyler Yacawych was five shots lower than his opening day score, but still carded a 153 (74-79) to end up in 10th place overall in the field of 58 golfers. Senior Daniel Wilson recorded an 83 on Sunday, ending up at 161 (78-83) to place 28th. Joe Tiderencel matched his first day score of 81 and closed with a 162 to tie for 29th and close out the team scoring for the 'A' group. Senior Andrew Palmatier recorded an 85 and ended up at 163 (78-85) to place 32nd.

Eric Spoth headlined Clarkson's 'B' squad, as he was just one-over par on Sunday, finishing in fifth place with a two-day score of 150 (77-73). Jace Dutch was next for the second team, shooting 158 (76-82) over 36 holes to tie for 21st. Junior Aaron Walsh shot 82 for the second straight day to finish at 164 and in a tie for 35th, and Luke Weisiger finished the second team's scoring as he finished with an 86 to close out the tournament at 167 (81-86) and in a tie for 41st. Dylan Farr's score was dropped from the team scoring as he shot 91 on day two, posting 181 to finish 52nd. Individual Brant Bomberger scored 88 on Sunday, ending up in a tie for 39th with a two-day tally of 166.
