Winn and Harmon help US to Gold at World Championships

Brampton, ONT - Behind 2 late power-play goals, the U.S. Women's National Team defeated Canada 6-3 to capture the gold medal in the 2023 IIHF Women's World Championship last night, claiming its 10th world championship gold medal. 

Current Golden Knight, Haley Winn and Clarkson Alum, Savannah Harmon, helped the US to their first Gold at Worlds since 2019.

"I'm so proud of our group and happy for the entire team and staff," said John Wroblewski, head coach of the 2023 U.S. Women's National Team. "The losing streak to Canada had to end at some point, and I was glad that it was today. You can't draw up that script at the end there, how quickly it turned in our favor. We're honored to have represented our country on this stage and to be bringing home gold." 

Winn ended her first World Championships with 5 assists in 7 games with a +4 rating.  Harmon, played in 7 games with a +2 rating and often saw most of her minutes at defense against opponents' top lines.  Winn also becomes the first Golden Knight to compete in a World Championships while on the Clarkson roster.  

Each medal at the 2023 Worlds had a former Knight on the roster.  Silver went to Team Canada, lead by 4 Clarkson alums.  Renata Fast had 1 goal and 4 assists in 7 games, Ella Shelton had 1 assist in 7 games including time on the power play unit, and Erin Ambrose had a point a game with 7 assists in 7 games.  Forward, Jamie Lee Rattray continues to produce at the highest level, scoring a goal and 3 assists in 7 games along with the game-winning tally in the shootout vs the US in the preliminary round.  

The Bronze was captured by Team Czechia and forward Michaela Pejzlova who had 2 goals and 1 assist in 7 games including a big goal vs the Swiss in the Bronze Medal game.
