Ithaca, NY – Eleven swimmers from the Clarkson University Swimming & Diving team reached the evening finals on the first day of the Liberty League Championships, headlined by the performance of freshman Connor Tasselmyer, as the Golden Knights participated in the annual conference meet hosted by Ithaca College.

Day One Results of 2023 Liberty League Championships

Tasselmyer tied for fourth in the preliminaries, but had to settle for sixth in the 'A' finals of the 50 freestyle on Wednesday evening. His preliminary time shattered his own school record in the event, as his morning time was 20.69 seconds, nearly a half-second faster than the mark he set in December, which itself broke a 35-year-old school record. His time in the finals was a bit slower, but still would have been a record-breaker had it not been for the prelim time, as he finished the 'A' finals race in 20.99 seconds. Classmate Andrew Sypko was in the 'B' finals, as he came in 13th overall in 21.97 seconds, while junior Tim Jordan swam in the 'C' finals, coming in 21st in 22.18 seconds. On the women's side, Aurelia Leonard placed 11th overall, as she closed out the 50 freestyle in 24.69 seconds, about a quarter-second off the school mark set just a few years ago by Paige Fronczak.

Earlier in the evening session, Gabriela McSwieney participated in the 'C' finals of the 500 freestyle, taking 18th place overall in 5:21.42. Three Clarkson male swimmers were in the 'C' finals of the 500 free, led by Tristan Miranda, who took 20th 4:55.46. Guillermo Barrios came in 22nd (4:59.16) and Charlie Jordan took 24th (5:04.63).

In the 200 individual medley, Grace Girard made it to the 'C' finals, and finished the race in 21st place with a time of 2:17.64. Two of the Clarkson men made it to the finals in the 200 individual medley, led by freshman Landon Colby in the 'B' finals. Colby was a touch slower compared to his preliminary time, but he still took 14th in 1:59.16. Alex Estano participated in the 'C' finals and ended up in 23rd with a time of 2:07.74.

Closing out the program on Wednesday were the 200 medley relay events, as Clarkson's top women's team placed sixth in 1:52.37 thanks to the group of Aurelia Leonard, Sydney Kanner, Bella Triolet, and Gabriela McSwieney. Clarkson's 'B' group comprising of Nicole Sayman, Angela Tewksbury, Grace Girard and Emily Greene picked up 16th-place points with a time of 1:58.93. On the men's side, Michael Schroeder, Colin Urmaza, Landon Colby, and Connor Tasselmyer also took sixth in 1:35.70, while the 'B' foursome of Aiden Howard, Bradley Beall, Alex Estano, and Tim Jordan gained 15th-place points in 1:42.86.
