Stuhler Sets New Standard in 100 Freestyle as Clarkson Closes Out Day Four at LL Championships

Ithaca, NY - The morning saw junior Gavin Stuhler tie a program record in the 200 freestyle and in the evening he took another two-tenths of a second off to claim the mark all for his own as the Clarkson University Swimming & Diving team closed out the fourth day of the 2026 Liberty League Championships, hosted by Ithaca College. 

The Golden Knights' men finished fourth out of 10 teams with 1028.5 points while the women ended up in ninth out of 10 squads with 385 points.

Stuhler raced to a time of 45.87 seconds in the 100 freestyle in the morning and then bettered that mark in the evening finals, coming in second place overall in 45.67 seconds. He was joined by two others in the 'C' finals from Clarkson, as Andrew Sypko came in 21st in 48.84 and Aiden Spoors took 23rd with a time of 49.46 seconds. In the preliminaries, Jacob Ducey was the first alternate (25th, 49.98) while Evan Walsh (31st, 51.63) and Sean Finnerty (32nd, 51.72) were further down the rankings. 

None of Clarkson's women participated in the 100 freestyle finals, but Kirsten Iles was close, taking 28th in 57.83 seconds. Abigal Szyprowski was next in 29th (58.42) and followed closely by Addison Gorton (32nd, 59.59) and Dani McDonald (33rd, 59.71). 

Three of Clarkson's men swam in the 200 backstroke finals on Saturday evening, with one participating in each of the heats. Owen White closed out an impressive weekend by taking sixth in the event in 1:54.34. Mason Cartier placed 14th overall with a time of 1:57.47 in the 'B' heat while James Fedele was 20th in the 'C' heat with a time of 2:02.68. Just missing out on the finals was Lucas Monroe, who took 27th in 2:13.48 in the preliminaries. 

Aurora Zary was the lone Clarkson woman to advance to the finals in the 200 backstroke, placing 18th overall in 2:16.49. Robin Weber (28th, 2:26.98) and Emily Kenny (31st, 2:35.54) just missed out during the prelims. 

Clarkson's men had four participants in the 200 breaststroke finals. Swimming side by side in the 'A' finals were Andrew Sammons and Landon Colby, and each swimmer jumped two spots from their preliminary spots. Sammons finished in fourth place in 2:05.28 while Colby took sixth overall in 2:05.88. Matthew Sitarek swam in the 'B' finals, placing 14th overall in 2:11.77 and Colin Losinger took 17th in the 'C' finals with a time of 2:15.38.

In the next race, Fiona Reilly placed 15th overall in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:36.65 as Clarkson's lone participant in that side of the finals. Roman Neenan ended up in 27th in the prelims with a time of 2:51.09. 

The 1650 freestyle races took place in both the opening session of the day and the evening races. Casey Everett had Clarkson's top time, placing 10th in 16:48.39. Daniel Killian was next for the Knights, taking 13th in 17:08.27 and Colin Cordy was 19th in 17:49.52. For the women, Natasha Hurff just missed out on the Clarkson record for the event, falling .62 second short with a time of 18:29.43 and placing 10th. 

Neither of Clarkson's female divers made it to the finals, but each performed well during the early afternoon preliminaries. Evelyn Vieira was 12th overall with 364.30 points and Devon Sedlack scored 255.25 points for 17th.

The meet ended with the 400 freestyle relay, as Clarkon's 'A' men's group of Owen White, Landon Colby, Evan Paneras, and Gavin Stuhler took fourth with a time of 3:07.51, topping a two-year-old program record by two seconds. On the women's side, Clarkson picked up eighth-place points thanks to the combo of Paige Davis, Natasha Hurff, Kirsten Iles, and Aurora Zary, putting together a time of 3:47.58.
