An odd, but convenient, weekend is scheduled for the Clarkson University Volleyball team this Friday and Saturday, as the Golden Knights will face crosstown rival SUNY Potsdam at Maxcy Hall on Friday evening, but will be back for a home match on Saturday afternoon when the Green and Gold take on Liberty League foe Union College.

The Series: Clarkson trails SUNY Potsdam in the all-time series (48-56), but the Golden Knights have dominated over the last decade and a half. Since 2007, Clarkson is 25-0 against the Bears, having dropped only seven sets since 2009 (54-7). Union and Clarkson have met 80 times, and are currently knotted at 20 wins apiece. Clarkson has won 19 times in the past 20 matches, including five postseason matches where the Knights ended Union's season.

Key Stats for Clarkson (9-7, 4-1 Liberty League): With a victory against Union, the Golden Knights will clinch a spot in the conference tournament, but the team is clearly looking for more after suffering its first defeat in league last weekend. Senior Sara Galante is the only player in the Liberty League to average better than three kills and three digs per set (3.16 kps, 3.04 dps) and also ranks fourth in the conference in aces per set (0.59). Sophomore Marin Hangliter averages 1.79 kills and 0.47 aces per set, having recorded two of her four double-digit kill matches last weekend. Julia Bennett is third in the league in hitting percentage (.343) and seventh in blocks per set (0.71 bps).

Key Stats for SUNY Potsdam (4-12, 0-5 SUNYAC): The Bears rely heavily on one hitter, Alyssa Adams. She has 592 attempts on the season, which is 271 more attacks than the second player on the team. Adams leads the squad with 3.47 kills per set and also delivers 2.29 digs per game, while Potsdam's second hitter, Megan Henry, averages 2.10 kills per set and has done so in only half the number of sets (29). Potsdam hasn't recorded many points in terms of blocks, averaging just 0.86 blocks per set as a team.

Key Stats for Union (11-8, 2-2 Liberty League): The Garnett Chargers have struggled on the road this season, going just 1-5 so far. Shannon McGrath leads the team with 2.95 kills and also has 0.46 aces per set. She is one of just a handful of players in the Liberty League to rank in the top 12 in both kills per set and digs per set. Maddie McCarron has a .314 hitting percentage from the middle, contributing 1.97 kills and 0.92 blocks per set. Union has a number of players that average better than 0.35 aces per set, including McGrath, both of their setters, and libero Georgia Pool.
