Tasselmyer Wins 50 Freestyle for Knights at Middlebury Invitational

Middlebury, VT – Freshman Connor Tasselmyer led a deep field in the 50 freestyle to earn the lone win of the weekend for the Clarkson University Swimming & Diving team as the Golden Knights spent three sessions competing at the Middlebury Invitational.

On the women's side, some events required multiple heats while others were single sessions, but the top finishes over the weekend came from Sydney Kanner. The junior placed fourth in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:49.52 and was also fifth in the 50 breaststroke in 35.17 seconds. Gabriela McSwieney also posted a pair of top 10 finishes, coming in seventh in the 500 freestyle (5:26.57) and 10th in the 1000 freestyle (11:17.45). Aurelia Leonard was in several different events, but her best showings came in the 50 backstroke, where she took seventh in 28.75 seconds, and 12th in the 100 freestyle in 57.03 seconds. Classmate Ava Lamontagne was also sixth in the 50 breaststroke (35.80 seconds) and 11th in the 100 breaststroke (1:15.73). Madelyn Nowicki had two top-10s, coming in sixth in the 200 butterfly (2:29.27) and ninth in the 400 individual medley (5:02.81). Diver Paige Cutler ended up in eighth in the 1-meter (245.75) and fifth in the 3-eter (261.80).

Like the women, the men also had numerous events that needed multiple heats and a few that utilized a single heat. Tasselmyer led a field of 23 participants in the 50 freestyle, finishing the event in 21.93 seconds, just .01 ahead of the second-place finisher. Tasselmyer also posted eighth-place showings in the 50 breaststroke (29.75), 100 breaststroke (1:03.96), and 100 freestyle (49.10). Tristan Miranda enjoyed three top-five finishes, taking fourth in the 400 individual medley (4:42.54) and fifth in both the 1000 freestyle (10:57.75) and 500 freestyle (5:06.48). Outside of Tasselmyer's win, Cooper Mattice had the best finish of the weekend for the Knights, claiming third in the 50 backstroke (26.66).

Several other swimmers performed well in multiple events for the Knights. Sophomore Michael Schroeder was in the top 10 in four events, finishing 10th in the 50 butterfly (25.12), fifth in the 100 backstroke (56.18), sixth in the 200 backstroke (2:04.89), and fourth in the 200 butterfly (2:07.55).  Landon Colby was also in the top 10 on four occasions, starting with a ninth-place finish in the 50 butterfly (24.68), and later coming in ninth in the 100 butterfly (54.13), sixth in the 100 backstroke (59.98), and ninth in the 200 breaststroke (2:19.17). Guillermo Barrios ended up in sixth in the 1000 freestyle (10:57.75) and 10th in the 20 freestyle (1:56.51), and Andrew Sypko came in ninth in both the 50 freestyle (22.86) and 200 freestyle (1:53.32). Aiden Howard also came in fourth in the 50 backstroke (26.74), Colin Urmaza was seventh in the 50 breaststroke (28.74), and Max Lempert was 10th in the 1-meter dive (254.35).
