Only one event remains before the Clarkson University Swimming & Diving program competes in the Liberty League Championships in mid-February, but that remaining weekend is arguably as challenging as the conference meet, as the Golden Knights will spend Friday and Saturday participating in the Middlebury Invitational.

Joining the host Middlebury College are Norwich University and Williams College, as well as the Golden Knights. Williams' men were ranked 11th in the nation in the last national poll, but since then the Ephs have handily beaten the numbers four and five in the country. The same can be said for the Ephs' women, ranked seventh in the nation, and that team just beat numbers five and six in the country by more than 100 points each last Saturday.

Clarkson Women: Last year at the Middlebury Invitational, sophomore Gabriela McSwieney posted a pair of top 10 finishes, coming in seventh in the 1000 freestyle and ninth in the 500 freestyle. She had an impressive showing in Clarkson's last big invitational, providing the Knights with three top-seven finishes at the Don Richards Invitational in early December. First-year collegian Aurelia Leonard had three top-six finishes at that same event hosted by RIT, including a runner-up performance in the 100 backstroke. Junior Bella Triolet took eighth in the 200 backstroke last year at Middlebury, and was most recently ninth in that event at RIT, as well as a fifth-place showing in the 100 butterfly.

Clarkson Men: The Green and Gold's top performance for the men at Middlebury a year ago was possibly Michael Schroeder, as he was sixth in the 200 backstroke, seventh in the 200 butterfly, and had another top-10 showing in the 100 butterfly. He had similar results at RIT in December, coming in third in the 100 backstroke, sixth in the 200 backstroke, and fifth in the 200 butterfly. Freshmen Connor Tasselmyer and Landon Colby could also see continued success at Middlebury. Colby, who was chosen Liberty League Rookie of the Week for his return performance against SUNY Potsdam this past Saturday, came in sixth in the 200 butterfly, eighth in the 100 butterfly, and then 10th in the 200 individual medley at RIT in December, while Tasselmyer, who has also earned conference honors this year, was second in the 50 freestyle (breaking a 35-year-old school record in the process), and seventh in both the 100 breaststroke and 100 freestyle.
