Ditzel Knocks Down Three Birdies on Back Nine to Highlight CU Golf at Liberty League Championships

Verona, NY – Junior Casey Ditzel shot a 77 with an even-par 36 on the back nine to lead the Clarkson University Golf team on the first day of the Liberty League Championships at the Shenendoah Golf Course at Turning Stone Resort.

The Golden Knights shot 327 in the first round, 39-over par on day one of the three-day tournament. The tournament will resume with another 18 holes on Saturday, beginning at 1:30 pm.

Ditzel shot 41 on the front nine and then recovered with a 36 on the back stretch. Ditzel had six pars in the first nine holes, but recovered with three birdies on the back nine, including a pair on two par-fours and one on a par-five. Senior Zach Pilarchik was next for the Knights, scoring a pair of birdies on his front nine, one coming on a par-five and the other on a par-four, to shoot 37 in the early going. He then scored a 43 on the back nine with one birdie to finish with an 80.

Andrew Palmatier and Dylan Farr each carded 85 to round out Clarkson's team score. Palmatier shot 44 on the front nine, but began the back nine with a birdie and scored 41 in the second half of his day. Farr notched a birdie on the longest hole of the course, a 552-yard par-five, and scored 42 on the front and then ended with a 43 on the back. Dale Turner also had two birdies, one on the front and one on the back, in his round of 87.
