Rochester, NY – First-year collegians Connor Tasselmyer and Aurelia Leonard etched their names in the Clarkson University Swimming & Diving records books on Friday afternoon, as the duo set individual marks on day one of the Don Richards Invitational, hosted by Rochester Institute of Technology.

After the first day of the Don Richards Invite, the Golden Knights' women reside in fourth place with 137 points, while the men are in third with 173 points, both teams in the middle of the pack of their respective team rankings. The second session begins at 10:00 am on Saturday.

Day One Results - Don Richards Invitational (12/2/2022)

Tasselmyer took more than fourth-tenths of a second off his fastest time of the year in the 50 freestyle and finished second in the event on Friday with a time of 21.17. His quick laps allowed him to surpass a 35-year-old record in the 50 freestyle, set by Jerry Miller (21.40) in February 1987. Leonard's mark was a bit quieter than Tasselmyer, as she led off the 400 medley relay with an impressive run in the 100 backstroke, cruising to a time of 59.71 seconds, topping the seven-year-old mark of Tiffany Catano (59.97, 2015).

Leonard competed in both of the Golden Knights' relays on Friday, helping both teams to fourth-place finishes. Leonard, Bella Triolet, Ava Lamontagne, and Gabriela McSwieney combined to finish the 200 freestyle in 1:42.54, and the 400 medley relay team of Leonard, Claudia Scala, Triolet, and McSwieney also finished fourth with a time of 4:10.64. Scala was the top performer for the Knights in the 200 individual medley (2:23.24), coming in 12th-place, and McSwieney had the best time for Clarkson in the 500 freestyle (5:30.15), good enough for seventh. Leonard also took fifth in the 50 freestyle with a time of 25.05 seconds. Paige Cutler also picked up top-10 points by taking eighth in the 1-meter dive (212.00).

Tasselmyer was the highlight for the Clarkson men, but both of the Green and Gold relays finished in third to pick up key points. Tim Jordan, Finn Halstead, Landon Colby, and Tasselmyer combined to finish the 200 freestyle relay in 1:27.81, and Michael Schroeder, Colby, Nicholas Lamy, and Tasselmyer ended the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:38.12. Colby was Clarkson's best finish in the 200 individual medley (2:02.02), taking the 10th spot. Guillermo Barrios had the top time for Clarkson in the 500 freestyle (5:06.29), finishing just outside the top 10 in 11th place. Max Lempert also came in seventh in the 3-meter dive with 215.90 points.
