Clarkson Women's Hockey Begins Stretch Run

The final month of the regular season has begun and Clarkson University finds itself once again as one of the top teams in the nation. The Golden Knights, defending NCAA Champions, own the longest current winning streak in the country and are ranked #2/3 in the national polls. Clarkson stands at 24-3-1 overall and sits atop the ECAC Hockey standings with a 14-2 league mark. With six games remaining, including four at Cheel Arena, the Green and Gold are two points ahead of second -place Colgate. Clarkson hosts Brown on Friday at 6:00 p.m. and Yale on Saturday in a 3:00 p.m. contest.

Clarkson ran its win streak to 13 games with a 4-1 victory over Syracuse on Tuesday at Cheel in the final non-league game of the year.

• The Knights, who have not loss since an overtime defeat to Quinnipiac on November 17, have outscored their opponents 117-38.  The Golden Knights, led by Captain Savannah Harmon and Assistant Captains Lauren Lefler, Shea Tiley, Amanda Titus and Cassidy Vinkle, boast the third-best scoring offense and defense in the country. The Green and Gold are averaging 4.18 goals per game, while allowing only 1.36. Clarkson has outscored its opponents 34-14 in the first seven games of 2018.
• One of the top lines in the NCAA powers the Knights' offense. Junior left wing Loren Gabel, freshman right wing Elizabeth Giguere and sophomore center Michaela Pejzlova ranked 1-2-3 in ECAC Hockey scoring. 
• Gabel has been on fire in the New Year and keeps on producing big numbers to help Clarkson continue its torrid pace. She has 54 points and 26 goals through 28 games. Gabel has tallied 19 points and 11 goals in the first seven games of 2018. She was named ECAC Player of the Week, NCAA 3rd Star of the Week and ECAC Hockey Player of the Month for the third time this season, also earning praise in October and December.
• Giguere follows right behind with 53 points, including a conference-high 34 assists. She has recorded at least one point in all, but one game this season. Giguere was named ECAC Rookie of the Week for the ninth time this season and conference Rookie of the Month for the third time (October, December, January).
• Pejzlova has 36 points on 19 goals and 17 assists. 
• Tiley backstops Clarkson's stingy defensive effort as one of the top goaltenders in the country. She posts a 1.39 GAA (3rd in the NCAA) and a .935 save percentage (5th). 
• Michaela Boyle scored a career-high two goals in Tuesday's win over Syracuse.
• Harmon is sixth in the nation for scoring by defensemen with 25 points (6-19) and third among conference blueliners in ECAC Hockey scoring with 15 league points (4-11).

The Series:
The Knights currently are on a 21 game unbeaten streak against Brown (19-0-2). Clarkson is 21-4-3 all-time against Brown. The Bears have not scored more than one goal against the Golden Knights in their last 11 games. The last game Brown scored more than once was in February 2012 when the Bears took Clarkson to overtime and lost 4-3. Clarkson took down Brown 11-1 in their first matchup of the year back in November. All but two of Clarkson's skaters registered at least one point in the game. Loren Gabel and Savannah Harmon each have ten points in their careers against Brown. In five career games, Gabel scored eight times and assisted on two others. Harmon has assisted on seven goals and scored three of her own. Shea Tiley has been stellar against the Bears with a 0.52 goals against average, a .968 save percentage, and a 6-0-0 record with only two goals against.

Clarkson has been dominant against Yale at home in their all-time series. The Knights have only lost once to Yale at Cheel Arena. The lone home loss was in 2015, this is also the only time Yale has defeated Clarkson in their last 14 matchups (12-1-1). Clarkson leads the all-time series 20-6-1. The Golden Knights shut out the Bulldogs 4-0 earlier this season. Led by their top line, Michaela Pejzlova, Loren Gabel, and Elizabeth Giguere each scored and assisted on at least one other. Gabel had two assists to go along with her goal. Rhyen McGill has six points in her career against Yale to lead the Knights offensively. McGill scored three times and has assisted on three others in her six games. Shea Tiley is 6-1-0, with a .921 save percentage, and a 1.58 goals against average.

Scouting Brown
Brown is 2-21 overall and 1-15 in the conference.  Both of the Bears' wins have come on the road this season. They are 2-10 overall in road games. Brown is currently on a nine-game losing streak with their last win coming against Sacred Heart on December 29. This past weekend Brown fell to Dartmouth and Harvard 3-2 and 6-1, respectively. 

Scouting Yale
Yale, which plays at St. Lawrence on Friday, is in sixth place in the ECAC with a a 7-7-2 league record and a 9-10-4 overall mark. The Bulldogs are 4-4-2 in road games this season. Yale is on a four-game winning streak after defeating Brown twice and sweeping Harvard and Dartmouth this past weekend.
