After a fast start to its Liberty League game against Vassar College, the Clarkson University Women’s Soccer team came up just short in its bid to pick up league points as the Brewers gained a 2-1 overtime victory at Clarkson Field on Friday afternoon.

Vassar's Chloe Wheeler  scored in the 103rd minute, connecting on a lofting shot from 25-yards out that just got over the outstretched hand of Clarkson freshman goaltender Brianna Thibeau (Salem, NY) for the game-winner in the second overtime period.

The Golden Knights, who suffered their first home loss of the season, wasted little time in taking the early lead. Freshman Taylor Abraham (Canandaigua, NY) won a loose ball at midfield, beating the Brewer defenders and goaltender, and set a low shot into an empty goal just 22 seconds after the opening touch for her second collegiate goal.

Vassar, which outshot the Green and Gold 15-8, tied the contest early in the second half.  Kelsey Domb took advantage of a Clarkson miscue just outside the box and scored into an empty net for her fifth goal of the year, making it 1-1 in the 55th minute.

Thibeau made four saves for the Knights, while Lily Lanier made two stops in the Brewers’ net.

Vassar had three corner kicks to Clarkson’s one. The Knights (5-2, 0-2 Liberty League) host Bard College on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. The Brewers (6-4, 1-1) play at St. Lawrence.
