Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Knights See 2026 Season Come to a Close with 2-1 Loss to Vassar

Potsdam, NY – Junior Emily LeBlanc scored early in the second half to give the Clarkson University Women's Soccer team life, but the Golden Knights could not get the equalizer after falling behind by a pair of goals in the opening period, dropping a 2-1 decision to Vassar College on Saturday afternoon at Hantz Field.

Clarkson saw its season come to a close with a record of 8-7-1 overall and 3-5-1 in the Liberty League, while Vassar clinched a first-round bye in the Liberty League Playoffs, moving to 10-1-4 overall and 6-1-2 in conference contests.

The Brewers controlled the play in the first half with a 13-1 edge in total shots, with five going on goal, as well as a 5-0 lead in corner kicks. That prolonged run of offense allowed Vassar to jump on the board early. A throw in near midfield ignited the Brewers offense and a solid pass from Gianna Panarelli from the midfield found Sonya Franklin along the left side of the box. Her hard shot went off the hands of Clarkson goalkeeper Emma Fleming and squeaked over the goal line at 8:32 to make it 1-0.

About 20 minutes later, the Brewers added a second goal to their tally. Caroline Sheehan began the scoring play with a corner kick from the right side and the ball bounced off the heads of a couple of players in front before falling to Alice Crowley. Her short pass slid to Cecelia Wager, who tapped it just over the line to make the score 2-0 at 27:30.

It seemed as if Clarkson might be on the ropes at the half, but the Golden Knights scored just 15 seconds into the second half. Jamie Dahlgard and Emily LeBlanc collectively forced a turnover about 35 yards away from the goal with LeBlanc getting the touch and pushing the ball forward. She then launched a shot from about 25 yards out, hitting a high shot over the outstretched hands of Laura Shea, putting the Knights on the board.

The rest of the contest was considerably more even than the first, though Vassar did again have an advantage in corner kick chances (5-1) while the shots were far more even (7-4). Clarkson's best opportunity came in the 61st minute off a corner, finding the head of Callie Abel from about six yards out, but it bounced into the hands of Shea to end the threat.

Vassar finished with a 20-5 lead in total shots and an 8-2 advantage in shots on goal, while the corner kicks gap was 10-1. Emma Fleming finished with five saves for the Knights and Laura Shea had one save for Vassar.
