With a 27-save effort from sophomore goaltender Erica Howe (Ottawa, ONT) and goals from three different players the Clarkson University Women's Hockey team shutout Quinnipiac 3-0 in ECAC Hockey action at Cheel Arena on Friday night.

The Golden Knights, who won their second straight, improve their record to 6-3-4 overall and to 2-2-1 in the ECAC. Quinnipiac, which saw its unbeaten streak end at four games (3-0-1) with its first league loss of the year, drops to 4-6-1 overall and to 3-1-1 in the conference.

Quinnipiac outshot the Knights 15-9 in the first period, but it was Clarkson that held the lead after the opening 20 minutes. With 50.6 seconds remaining in the stanza, sophomore Brittany Styner (Calgary, ALB) picked up a loose puck at the bottom of the right circle skated past a defenseman, around the sprawling Bobcat goaltender and slipped in her first goal of the season to put the Green and Gold on top 1-0.

After a scoreless second period, Clarkson added two more goals early in the third to complete its second consecutive win over Quinnipiac.

Sophomore defenseman Vanessa Plante (Riviere-du-Loup), who scored the game-winner last Saturday at Rensselaer, tallied her second career goal at 6:22 of the third. Plante took a short pass from classmate Shelby Nisbet (Wiseton, SASK) at the right point and lofted a shot through a screen, beating Quinnipiac goaltender Victoria Vigilanti high on the glove side, Junior defenseman Hailey Wood (Lethbridge, ALB) also assisted.

At 9:19, senior Juana Baribeau (Amos, QUE) was positioned at the top of the crease and redirected a shot from the point by classmate Danielle Boudreau (Whitby, ONT) that trickled over the goal line for her second goal of the season and 48th career score. Baribeau, who also assisted on the first goal, has 96 career points (48-48). Sophomore Vanessa Gagnon (St. Constant, QUE) also set up the goal for her sewcond assist of the game.

Quinnipiac outshot Clarkson 27-22. Howe posted 15 first-period saves, nine stops in the second and three more saves in the final frame for her second shutout of the season and fourth career whitewash.

The Knights were 0-of-3 on the power play and killed off all four of the Bobcats man-advantage opportunities.

Clarkson hosts Princeton in a 4:00 p.m. game in Potsdam on Saturday afternoon, while Quinnipiac plays at St. Lawrence.
