Fourth-Ranked Knights Shocked in Overtime by Princeton

Princeton, NJ - Just a few minutes away from the first scoreless tie in Clarkson University Women's Hockey history, Princeton scored with 2:34 remaining to steal an extra point and defeat the Golden Knights 1-0 in ECAC Hockey action Friday night.

The Golden Knights, ranked fourth in the country, fell to 20-8-3 overall and 14-4-1 in league play. Clarkson still holds first place in the conference, but the gap between first place and the rest of the league is narrowing as the team is far from guaranteed home-ice advantage throughout the conference playoffs. Princeton, sitting in seventh place overall, improved to 11-11-4 overall and 9-6-4 in ECAC Hockey.

Three straight scoreless periods didn't see much offensive action for either team, as Clarkson held a 21-12 edge in shots through the first 60 minutes, limiting the Tigers' chances on the power play as well as 5-on-5 play. In the overtime period, Princeton was quickly awarded a power play when Juana Baribeau (Amos, QUE) was whistled for hooking only 12 seconds into the extra session. Clarkson was able to hold off Princeton during that time, allowing just one shot on goal in two minutes, but the Tigers regrouped 14 seconds after the penalty elapsed as Danielle DiCesare scored her 10th goal of the season at 2:26 with assists going to Melanie Wallace and Paula Romanchuk.

Cassie Seguin made 21 saves for the shutout for the Tigers, while junior goalkeeper Lauren Dahm (Baldwinsville, NY) made 13 saves in the loss. Clarkson out shot Princeton 21-14.
