Sophomore Juana Baribeau (Amos, QUE) figured in on all the scoring with two goals and one assist, and junior Lauren Dahm (Baldwinsville, NY) posted 25 saves as the third-ranked Clarkson University Women’s Hockey team earned a 3-0 shutout over Colgate University in their home debut at Cheel Arena in the 2010 portion of the schedule.
Winners of three straight games, including back-to-back shutout triumphs, the Golden Knights host Cornell in a key ECAC Hockey matchup on Saturday afternoon, at 4:00 p.m. With eight games remaining in the regular season, Clarkson stands atop the conference standings with a 12-1-1 league mark. The Green and Gold are two points ahead of second-place Cornell, and have a game in hand on the Big Red. Clarkson, at 11-0-1 at home, owns an 18-5-3 overall record.
Baribeau opened the scoring against Colgate (7-16-4, 3-8-4), connecting off a passing combination from senior Britney Selina (Thornhill, ONT) and junior Melissa Waldie (Newmarket, ONT) on a shot from the bottom of the left circle at 7:02 of the first for the only goal Clarkson would need.
With 13 seconds remaining in the middle frame, Baribeau fed a pass from behind the Colgate net to Selina out in the slot where the Knights’ captain fired in her ninth goal of the season for a 2-0 Clarkson lead. Waldie, back in the line up after missing last weekend with an injury, also set up the score for her first multiple-assist game of the season.
Baribeau sealed the Knights’ win, which extended their unbeaten streak over the Raiders to eight straight games (5-0-3), with her 14th goal of the year, an empty-net tally with 42 seconds remaining. Selina notvhed second assist of the game.
Clarkson out shot Colgate 28-25. Dahm made eight saves in the first, nine stops in the second and eight more over the final 20 minutes to post her seventh shutout of the season and 17th career whitewash.
Only three penalties were called in the contest. Colgate was 0-of-2 on the power play, while the Knights did not connect on their only man-advantage opportunities.
