Although the Clarkson University Women’s Hockey team enjoyed a 2-to-1 advantage in shots, the Golden Knights had to settle for a 1-1 overtime tie against Boston College on Saturday afternoon at Cheel Arena.
Clarkson, which defeated the 6th-ranked Eagles 5-1 on Friday, owns a 1-0-1 record and will continue its non-league play against Hockey East opponents next weekend when it host Providence College and the University of Connecticut.
After battling through two scoreless periods, Clarkson and Boston College combined for the game’s only two goals in a span of 2:12 midway through the third period. Thirty-seven seconds into their fourth power play of the game, the Knights took the initial lead. Junior Melissa Waldie (Newmarket, ONT) was credited with a deflection in front off a shot from the point by senior Britney Selina (Thornhill, ONT) at 10:39.
Boston College came right back, however, when freshman defenseman Blake Bolden skated past the Clarkson defense and lifted a shot in close over the stick-side shoulder of the Knights’ junior goaltender Lauren Dahm (Baldwinsville, NY) at 12:51.
Clarkson out shot Boston College 46-23, including a 25-10 margin through the first 40 minutes. Corinne Boyles posted 45 save, while Dahm recorded 22 stops.
Both teams had four power-play chances. BC had the last man-advantage opportunity of the contest, with 22.5 seconds remaining in overtime. The Eagles' Allie Thunstrom put a shot on goal in close just before the final buzzer, but Dahmn was able to make the stop to salvage the tie for the 11th-ranked Green and Gold.
