Oswego, NY – Some low scores early on made it look like the Clarkson University Golf team might make up a 17-stroke deficit from the first day to jump into the lead, but the Golden Knights instead had to settle for a tie for second at the Oswego Fall Golf Invitational.

The Golden Knights finished 13 strokes (613 overall) behind Nazareth (600), but had trimmed the deficit to single digits around the halfway point of day two. Clarkson is off next weekend, but competes in a one-day tournament hosted by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on Monday, October 5th.

Freshman Tyler Burchett jumped up eight spots in the standings on the second day with a 74, scoring a birdie on the first hole and then picking up two more on the back nine, including ending his day with a birdie on the final hole. He shot 36 on the front nine and then had a 38 on the back, closing out his tournament with a score of 151 overall to tie for sixth in the field of 60 golfers.

Tyler Yacawych also had a big jump in the standings after having his score dropped on day one. The junior shot 154 overall, but had a 74 on day two, going from the middle of the pack to the top quarter, tying for 14th. Yacawych had just one birdie on his card, doing so on the sixth hole, but was consistent with 13 pars.

Eric Spoth actually had the second lowest score for the Knights in the tournament at 153 to tie for 10th, but his 76 was third among Clarkson golfers on Sunday. He had two birdies in his round, but also recorded an eagle on a short par-four, scoring a two on the 286-yard sixth hole.

The top scores from Saturday had the highest scores on Sunday. Both Sam Schultz and Luke Weisiger slipped out of the top 10 into the middle of the pack of the tournament. Schultz rounded out Clarkson's team score with an 83, posting seven pars overall, and ending the two-day event with a score of 159. Weisiger shot 85 on day two to end up with a score of 161 overall, picking up eight pars on Sunday. Schultz finished in a tie for 25th while Weisiger ended up in a tie for 34th.
