Knights Place Second at Castleton Invitational

Rutland, VT – Scores were considerably higher than day one for all teams, but the Clarkson University Golf team was able to hold on to second place at the Castleton Invitational, with senior Luke Weisiger coming away with medalist honors to highlight the Golden Knights' performance at the par-70 Rutland Country Club.

Clarkson finished the tournament with a score of 584, four strokes behind Southern Maine to claim second among nine teams. New England College was a distant third (617), Norwich was fourth (621) and host Vermont State University Castleton was fifth (621).

Weisiger was excellent on day two, again topping the field of 45 golfers, though he was three-over on Sunday for a two-day score of 139. Weisiger began his second round with a bogey and then a double bogey, but played even par for the remainder of the day, recording birdies on the sixth and ninth holes on the front nine and then adding two more on the back nine with one-under holes on the 10th and 17th holes.

Tyler Burchett tied for third in the field, scoring a 77 on the second day to finish at 145. He recorded a birdie on the second hole and then finished his day with another birdie on the last hole of the course.

Tyler Yacawych jumped up the leaderboard and tied for eighth, scoring 75 for the second straight day for a 150. He had a birdie on the eighth hole and then getting two more on the back nine, doing so on the 11th hole and then the 14th hole.

Eric Spoth rounded out Clarkson's team scoring with a 78 on day two, finishing at 152 to come in 11th overall. He picked up a pair of birdies on the front nine, doing so on the fourth and sixth holes.

Sam DuPont had his number dropped from the team total for day two as he shot 81 to close out the tournament with a score of 154. He struggled on the front nine, but recovered on the back nine, picking up two birdies on the 11th and 15th holes. DuPont took 13th in the tournament.
