CU Softball Preview - vs. SUNY Potsdam (4/27)

Finals begin later this week, so the Clarkson University Softball team is squeezing in one more doubleheader before the weekend as the Golden Knights will host SUNY Potsdam on Monday afternoon at Scott Field.

The Series: Earlier this month, the Bears took two games from Clarkson, thanks in large part to some fielding woes by the Golden Knights. Clarkson committed nine errors in the doubleheader, including seven in the first contest. Fortunately the Green and Gold have tightened up the defense recently, committing only one error or less in six straight games.

Key Stats for Clarkson (6-25): The Knights' offense was solid last week, averaging just under nine runs per game in six contests. Several of the first-year collegians stood out, including Emily Martin, who was 10-for-19 last week, and Kelsea Flanagan, who went 8-for-18 in the three doubleheaders. The hottest hitter as of late is Ryleigh Fontana. She is on a seven-game hitting streak and has gone 14-for-30 (.467 average) in the past 10 games. Flanagan is hitting .442 on the year in limited time, while both Fontana and Ivy Borkoski are hitting .368 in 2026.

Key Stats for SUNY Potsdam (12-20): The Bears have been on a skid recently, winning just three of their last 13 games. Potsdam has its own standout freshman in Payton St. Clair, who is batting .411/.456/.684 on the year and went 8-for-13 in the last four games. Alexys Rosick is batting .394/.439/.538 and is a perfect 21-for-21 on stolen base attempts. Emily Birmingham, one of the team's top hurlers with 51 strikeouts in 96.1 innings, is also hitting .366/.430/.476.
