The Golden Knights will open the ECAC Playoffs with an Opening Round home game on Friday, when they host RPI in a single game that will send the winner into the Quarterfinals. Puck drop is set for 7:00 pm,
Clarkson earned the home game based on getting the 8th seed and will host the 9th seed RPI. RPI moved up in the standings thanks to a late 4-1-1 run down the stretch. Clarkson was able to maintain their home ice spot thanks to a 4-1 record to finish the season. Clarkson lost both regular season games to the Engineers this season. While the Knights own a 102-59-11 record all time vs RPI, in the playoffs, the Knights are 7-9 all time. The only other time the teams met in the ECAC Opening Round was 3 years ago, when the Engineers, the #12 sees, upset the #5 seed Knights.
The two games this season saw the Engineers jump out to early leads and then the Knights would battle back but were unable to close the gap. In game 1, the Knights outshot RPI 27-19 while Clarkson peppered 47 shots at RPI in game two, but fell short in that comeback bid as well.
Clarkson is led by
Ryan Bottrill on the score sheet. Ryan is 10th in the NCAA & 2nd in the ECAC for assists this season with 27. Three Freshman are in the top six on the team in scoring, with
Owen Van Steensel leading all first year players in points (25) and leading the team in goals (12). Remi Gelinas is 3rd on the team in points with 21, and Justin Cote is 6th in points with 17.
