Knights Split Home-Opening Dual Meet with Skidmore

Potsdam, NY - Mason Cartier, Evan Paneras, and Gavin Stuhler each won a pair of events on Saturday as the Clarkson University Swimming & Diving team split its dual meet against Skidmore College at Fuller Pool.

The Golden Knights' men just eked out a win over Skidmore with a score of 147-141, while the Thoroughbreds' women won each event to claim a 225-67 win. Clarkson swims on back-to-back days next weekend, competing at St. Lawrence on Friday afternoon and then traveling to Oswego State for a dual meet on Saturday afternoon.

Cartier was the first individual winner of the day for the Golden Knights and he ended the day with two victories, taking the 100 backstroke (1:01.30) and 200 backstroke (2:16.02) as well as swimming on the winning 200 medley relay team (1:49.49) with Andrew Sammons, Paneras, and Stuhler. Paneras had the top times in the 100 butterfly (57.96) and 200 individual medley (2:16.74) while Stuhler won a pair of sprint freestyle events, taking the 50 free (23.77) and 100 free (54.43).

Casey Everett had a pair of runner-up finishes before winning the 400 freestyle later in the day in 4:27.37. Matthew Sitarek also had the top spot in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.19). Gavin Cibelli won the 3-meter dive (267.55) and Carter Lancto took the 1-meter dive (266.95) for the Knights.

On the women's side, Clarkson was without an individual winner, but had some close finishes along the way. Natasha Hurff lost out on the 200 freestyle by less than four seconds, Paige Davis was second in the 100 backstroke by a little over two seconds, and Dani McDonald was the runner-up by 1.45 seconds in the 100 freestyle. Later in the day, Abigail Szyprowski was second in the 200 backstroke and Fiona Reilly was the runner-up in the 200 individual medley. Devon Sedlack also took second in the 3-meter dive (188.75).
