CU Swimming & Diving Preview - at Middlebury Invitational (1/30-31)

One final meet remains before the Liberty League Championships for the Clarkson University Swimming & Diving team as the Golden Knights head to Vermont to swim against high-level competition at the Middlebury Invitational.

LIVE VIDEO

The Meet: Along with the Golden Knights, Middlebury will host St. Lawrence University, Williams College, University of Vermont, and Norwich. The three-session meet begins at 5:30 on Friday with two additional sessions on Saturday, the first at 10:00 am and the second at 4:00 pm. The meet is a non-scoring invitational as the teams are preparing for their league championships.

Clarkson Women: Sophomore Evelyn Vieira has won 10 of her dual meet dives this year and recently broke her own school mark at the Don Richards Invitational in early December, topping her own record in the 3-meter by a slim margin of 0.65 points. Classmate Aurora Zary has won five events in an abbreviated campaign, including two at the North Country Invitational in late November. Natasha Hurff performed well at the Don Richards Invitational in December, placing second in the 500 freestyle.

Clarkson Men: Several program marks fell back in December and those times may be approached this weekend as the team begins gearing up for the Liberty League Championships in just a few weeks. Freshman Evan Paneras won both of his butterfly races in December, setting new school standards in the 100 butterfly (49.94) and 200 butterfly (1:52.82). Sophomore Gavin Cibelli has already qualified for the NCAA Regional Diving Championships in early March and has won 12 dual meet dives while also placing second in both the 1-meter and 3-meter at the Don Richards Invite. Numerous other swimmers will be setting themselves up for success this February as well. Owen White will be eyeing his own mark in the 400 individual medley, Andrew Sammons should challenge the records in both the 100 breaststroke and 200 breaststroke, Casey Everett was only three seconds short of his own 500 freestyle mark in December, and both Mason Cartier and Gavin Stuhler are positioning themselves for the 'A' finals in the 100 backstroke and 50 freestyle, respectively.
