Knights Cruise Past SUNY Potsdam to Celebrate the 2026 Senior Day

Potsdam, NY – Both Evelyn Vieira and Gavin Cibelli won each of their dives and Kirsten Iles also won a pair of events as the Clarkson University Swimming & Diving team swept through SUNY Potsdam in its return to 2026 action at Fuller Pool.

The Golden Knights men won handily 205-19 while the Clarkson women also won by triple-digits, taking the Bears 165-53. Clarkson has one more invitational before the conference championships, competing at the Middlebury Invite on the last two days of January.

Clarkson opened and closed the meet with wins in the relay events. The Golden Knights' women took the 200 medley relay in 2:20.11 thanks to Aurora Zary, Fiona Reilly, Katelyn Otis, and Addison Gorton, while the group of Iles, Paige Davis, Abigail Szyprowski, and Gorton combined for the 200 freestyle win in 2:04.24.

Szyprowski returned immediately for the 800 freestyle, winning that event in 11:14.50. She was joined by other winners in Gorton (50 freestyle, 30.53 seconds), Aurora Zary (100 backstroke, 1:14.93), Otis (400 freestyle, 5:21.34), and Natasha Hurff (100 breaststroke, 1:28.64). Vieira picked up wins in both of the diving events, taking the 1-meter with a score of 206.40 and then topping that score in the 3-meter with 210.23 points. Iles won a pair of starts, taking the 200 freestyle in 2:20.71 and the 100 freestyle in 1:05.81.

Like the women, Clarkson's men took first in both of the relay races. James Fedele, Matthew Sitarek, Evan Paneras, and Gavin Stuhler put together a time of 1:50.31 in the 200 medley relay and Owen White, Mason Cartier, Evan Paneras, and Casey Everett combined for a 200 freestyle relay win in 1:42.33.

There also were two multi-event winners on the men's side, including diver Gavin Cibelli, who almost repeated his scores in the two dives. He posted 284.25 points in the 3-meter and then edged past that score in the 1-meter with 284.63 points. Casey Everett also won a pair of freestyle races, taking the 200 freestyle in 2:01.79 and later winning the 400 freestyle in 4:23.76. There were seven other individual winners for Clarkson throughout Saturday afternoon. Seniors Andrew Sypko and Landon Colby won a start apiece, with Sypko taking the 50 freestyle (25.31) and Colby hitting the pad first in the 100 butterfly (1:01.12). Colin Cordy (800 freestyle, 9:34.53), Evan Paneras (200 individual medley, 2:16.40), Gavin Stuhler (100 freestyle, 55.40), Mason Cartier (100 backstroke, 1:02.09), and Andrew Sammons (100 breaststroke, 1:08.81) also each won an event.
