Freshman Evan Paneras broke a pair of school records on Saturday for the Clarkson University Swimming & Diving program and he was honored for the performance on Monday when he was chosen as the Liberty League Rookie of the Week.

Paneras topped a 28-year-old record by Charlie Weisman in the 100 butterfly, finishing the event in 49.94 seconds (old record was 50.60), edging out the second-place finisher by .12 seconds. The 200 butterfly race was even closer, as Paneras won by the slimmest of margins at .01 seconds with a time of 1:52.82, beating the former Clarkson record of 1:53.48 performed by Jacob Baker in February of 2020. Paneras also finished eighth in the 100 freestyle (48.36) between his two wins.

It marks the second time this season that Paneras has been selected as the Liberty League Rookie of the Week. The wins on Saturday marked the seventh and eighth individual races won by Paneras this fall, all occurring in butterfly events.

Junior Mason Cartier and sophomore Gavin Cibelli were also picked to the Liberty League Honor Roll.
