Rochester, NY – Natasha Hurff took the second spot in the 500 freestyle and was nearly matched by Casey Everett, who took third in the same event, as several Clarkson University Swimming & Diving team members stood out on day one of the Don Richards Invitational, hosted by RIT.

Day two will resume Saturday morning as the meet will have two additional sessions, one in the morning and then another in the afternoon. Clarkson's men currently sit in second place with 197 points, behind RIT (404) but ahead of Skidmore (176), Jamestown Community College (68), St. Lawrence (64) and Nazareth (64). The Golden Knights' women are in the middle of the pack in fourth with 137 points, barely behind Nazareth (139) as well as Skidmore (271) and RIT (265) but ahead of St. Lawrence (122), Mount Holyoke (71), and Jamestown Community College (68).

Clarkson's women opened with a fifth place finish in the 200 freestyle relay thanks to Kirsten Iles, Hurff, Aurora Zary, and Addison Gorton, but Hurff didn't have much of a break as she was right back in the water in the 500 freestyle where she ended up as the runner-up in the event with a time of 5:18.47, easily the Knights' top finish on day one in Rochester. Aurora Zary placed seventh in the 200 individual medley (2:17.90) as the next top performer, while Dani McDonald was the Knights' top finisher in the 50 freestyle in 26.32 seconds. Clarkson closed out day one with another fifth-place relay finish, closing out the 400 medley relay in 4:23.23 thanks to Zary, Fiona Reilly, Paige Davis, and Iles.

On the men's side, Clarkson had two in the top seven of the 500 freestyle, led by Casey Everett in third in 4:46.29, while Colin Cordy was seventh in 4:57.01. The Knights had two more in the top nine in the 50 freestyle, headlined by Gavin Stuhler (21.70) in fifth and Andrew Sypko (22.15) in ninth. Owen White was also sixth in the 200 individual medley (1:57.62). Gavin Cibelli also finished fifth in the 3-meter dive, scoring 240.15 points.

Clarkson's two relays were both in the top three, opening the day in third in the 200 freestyle thanks to Sypko, White, Evan Paneras, and White (1:26.47), while the 400 medley relay foursome of Mason Cartier, Andrew Sammons, Paneras, and Stuhler combined for the runner-up spot in 3:29.44.
