Bitterly cold weather will shorten the weekend for the Clarkson University Nordic Ski team, but the Golden Knights and the rest of the field at the Middlebury Invitational will attempt a 10K Skate on Sunday after having Saturday's race cancelled due to frigid wind chills and less than hospitable temperatures.

10K Skate: The Middlebury Invitational was home to a 10K Skate last year as well with numerous Knights standing out on the course at the Rikert Outdoor Center in Ripton, Vermont. Matthew Clarner won the men's race, topping the field of 85 skiers with a time of 25:16.02 in 2025. This year, Clarner already has competed in one 10K Skate, finishing in a time of 24:17 on the opening weekend in New Hampshire. Several others performed well in Vermont last year. Noah Payne took fifth (25:29.34), though he has yet to compete in any lengthy races this January. Torsten Brickley (11th, 26:33.54), Silas Bartol (26th, 27:26.43), and Adam Jansen (28th, 27:28.31) also posted solid times a year ago at the Middlebury race. Each has taken considerable seconds off their times in the first 10K Skate this year, though the course and conditions could certainly challenge them on Sunday. For the women, Skylar Francis ended up 13th out of 78 skiers a year ago, finishing the race in 32:11.37.
