A deeper field awaits the Clarkson University Nordic Ski team this weekend as the Golden Knights will be challenged by a variety of programs at the Spike Clayton Memorial Invitational, hosted by the University of Vermont at Sleepy Hollow Inn in Huntington, VT

The Race: Unlike last weekend where only a few collegiate teams competed, the Green and Gold are scheduled to be joined by Colby, Cornell, Dartmouth, Hamilton, McGill, Middlebury, Northeastern, Paul Smiths, Skidmore, Smith, Sterling, St. Lawrence, Main-Farmington, Vermont, Wellesley, West Point, Williams, and Yale. Saturday's event is a 10K Skiathlon where the competitors will race a 5K Classic and then a 5K Skate, while Sunday's is a three-person skate relay on a 1.7K loop with each skier doing three laps.

The Men: Clarkson will have a full roster traveling this weekend, capable of creating five full relay teams. The top relay team will likely be Matthew Clarner, Adam Jansen, and Torsten Brickley, as that trio combined to take three of the top four spots in the 10K on Saturday, each recording under 26 minutes in that event. Last year, Clarner was 19th overall at the USCSA Nationals, Jansen was 44th, and Brickley was 45th.

The Women: Clarkson has three skiers, enough to fill the relay team as Sklyar Francis, Clare Janas, and Janneke Baks will combine for placement. This weekend's races are considerably shorter than last weekend, when the Knights competed in a 10K on the first day and then a 25K on the second. Francis had the top time for the Knights, finishing in the middle of the pack of the full field (both men and women, and all age groups), placing 43rd out of 73 on Saturday and then 48th out of 79 on Sunday.
