Clarner and Francis Top Knights Performances at UVM Invite

Huntington, VT - Sophomore Matthew Clarner and junior Skylar Francis each posted solid finishes for the Clarkson University Nordic Ski team as the Golden Knights compete in a 10K Skiathlon at the Spike Clayton Memorial Weekend, hosted by University of Vermont at the Sleepy Hollow Inn Ski & Bike Center.

Clarkson was on the podium in a deep field of 89 skiers, placing third overall with a time of 30 minutes, 24.0 seconds. He finished the 5K Classic portion of the race in 15:57.7 and then was able to close out the 5K Skate section in 14:26.2, which was only 3.3 seconds off the fastest pace of those in that half of the race. Torsten Brickley was less than 20 seconds behind Clarner in sixth place overall with a time of 31:06.6 while Adam Jansen also was within a minute of Clarner at 31:23.6, putting him 10th overall. Brickley was about 28 seconds faster in the 5K Classic than Jansen, but Jansen was 11.6 seconds faster in the 5K Skate. That trio rounded out Clarkson's scoring group. Silas Bartol was next for the Knights, finishing 13th overall in 32:17.2 and Oliver Dolcino was also 23rd in 34:03.8. Others in the top half of the field from Clarkson were Nathaniel Burke in 31st, Dillon Frank in 36th, and Braydon Patch in 41st.

On the women''s side, Skylar Francis finished seventh out of 92 skiers with a time of 38:34.7, going just over 20 minutes (20:01.9) in the 5K Classic and then finishing the 5K skate in 18:32.7. Janneke Baks was 64th (50:59.1) and Clare Janas placed 72nd (55:33.2) to finish Clarkson's team score.
